Registered Sex Offender Information

Texas Law

Under Texas law, persons convicted and or/charged for certain sex offenses must register with the local law enforcement agency within whose jurisdiction they reside. The law also requires the agency that registers the offender to notify the public of the offender's presence in the community.

The City of Rowlett enacted a City Ordinance (PDF) in June 2006 stating registered sex offenders may not reside within 1000 feet of a Child Safety Zone, defined in this ordinance as places where children gather.

Texas Database of Sex Offenders

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) also maintains a statewide database of registered sex offenders and other matters of interest. This database is open to the general public and may be accessed through the DPS website.

Public Notice

The Texas Department of Public Safety sends out post cards to neighborhoods when a “High Risk” offender moves into their community to inform citizens of their presence.
