The Rowlett Fire Department provides emergency and non-emergency services to an area of 21 square miles with a residential population of over 70,000. We have 99 firefighters (33 on shift) which staff four stations on a 24-hour basis. The Rowlett Fire Department responds to over 8,000 incidents annually.

The Rowlett Fire Department  was created in the early 1950s and purchased the first fire engine in 1955. Before 1979, it was a volunteer department. In the spring of 1979, three paid personnel were hired. Rowlett Fire has now been a fully paid, professional department for almost 40 years.

On December 22, 2015, the Rowlett Fire Department received the award and designation of "Recognized Best Practices Fire Department" from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices Recognition Program. Rowlett becomes the fourth department in the state of Texas to achieve this recognition!

The Rowlett Fire Department’s primary focus is commitment to delivering the highest quality and the most effective fire suppression, emergency medical services, and emergency management to the citizens of Rowlett. Common emergency and non-emergency areas include:

  • Building fires or fire alarms
  • Vehicle accidents involving injury or extrication
  • Injured and sick citizens
  • Hazardous materials incidents
  • Animal rescue
  • Assistance for the disabled and elderly
  • Installation of smoke detectors and batteries
  • Community education

ISO Rating

Rowlett Fire Rescue has an Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating of 2. This has a positive influence on economic development efforts and could potentially mean lower fire insurance rates for homeowners and businesses.

The ISO is an organization that provides statistical information on risk, and their ratings have a large impact on fire departments nationwide. ISO ratings range from 10–1, with “1” as the highest rating. In determining an ISO rating, almost every aspect of a city and its fire department is evaluated. Points are given for everything from the fire department’s training aids to the distance between fire hydrants.
