Detention Services

Detention Services, a program under the Support Services Division, is responsible for the operation of the Rowlett Police Department's detention facility. The detention facility is used to temporarily house prisoners charged with Class B and higher misdemeanors pending transfer to the Dallas or Rockwall County Jails. Prisoners charged with Class C misdemeanors (traffic warrants, city ordinance violations, public intoxication, simple assault) are also housed here pending the posting of appearance bonds or fines.

The Rowlett Police Department's detention facility is a state of the art holding area designed with the safety of the officer in mind. It is comprised of six three-person male cells, two three-person female cells and a six person holding cell. It utilizes video cameras for the remote monitoring of prisoner cells from the detention control area.

Detention Officers are responsible for completing the book-in and book-out process of incoming and outgoing prisoners. They are also responsible for 24-hour security in the detention facility. Their duties include the feeding of prisoners and the daily upkeep of the detention facility.
