NTMWD Annual Water System Maintenance

Through April 3...
Disinfection is a critical part of the water treatment process that keeps drinking water free of harmful microorganisms, such as parasites and viruses. Disinfection involves a two-step process that first treats the water at the treatment plant and then chloramine disinfectant (chlorine + ammonia) is added to maintain water quality on its journey through the miles of pipes to homes and businesses.

During the temporary change, the North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) suspends adding ammonia and uses only free chlorine to keep water disinfected as it travels through pipes. This temporary conversion is a common practice for water providers using chloramines for disinfection, More info…

Is Stagnant Water a Code Violation?

Stagnant swimming pools and stagnant bodies of water are in violation of Rowlett Code of Ordinances, International Property Maintenance Code, Sec 78-121, Subsection 303.1 Stagnant swimming pools can become not only a safety concern due to lack of water clarity but also a public health concern.

Stagnant water is the perfect breeding ground for mosquitos, which can harbor mosquito-borne diseases, such as West Nile Virus.  Stagnant swimming pools can produce thousands of mosquitos in just a few weeks, but did you know just a small capful of water could produce hundreds of mosquitos?   Any water standing for more than 4 days can be a potential breeding ground for mosquitos.
