Vaccine Candidate Updates- Pfizer, the first COVID-19 vaccine granted an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the US, has begun a clinical trial for children aged 12-15 years, and has begun planning for a trial for children aged 5-11 years later this year. Additionally, Moderna has begun a clinical trial for children ages 12-17. Moderna has also begun testing a booster vaccine for potential use against COVID-19 variant strains.
- Johnson & Johnson (J&J) has filed for their Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA. They have released new reports that their vaccine in a single dose regimen is 85% effective against severe illness, and 66% effective at preventing moderate and severe illness. The manufacturer is also researching a two-dose regimen of this vaccine, for potential increased efficacy against the spread of COVID-19.
- Novavax has also released data on their COVID-19 vaccine candidate, showing 89% efficacy against moderate and severe COVID-19 disease. They are also manufacturing an additional potential booster or supplement dose for variant strains of COVID-19. Novavax has applied for approval in the UK, and is working with the FDA to submit for an EUA.
- AstraZeneca’s vaccine has been approved for emergency use in the European Union, but has not yet been approved in the United States. Thus far, the vaccine has shown 82% efficacy after two doses, however, many countries are advising that this vaccine is not given to individuals over the age of 65, due to a lack of data surrounding this age group.

COVID-19 Case Counts(Click on picture for larger image) The first chart in this post illustrates confirmed COVID-19 case counts numbers as 7pm Thursday, February 4 - the rest are updated Rowlett trend charts. Since the last update on Monday, February 1, Rowlett added 73 new cases. Please continue to stay home and stay safe. Stay vigilant when you must go out - wear your face covering, maintain safe distancing from others not in your group and, most importantly, wash your hands often. These measures are critical not only to slow the spread and protect people's lives, but also to protect our economy from further closures and to prevent compromising the health care services we need across the state. Find additional information about the vaccine and how those who qualify may register to receive it here: https://www.ci.rowlett.tx.us/.../COVID-19-Vaccine....
The COVID-19 vaccine dashboard is available at Texas Department of State Health Services website. You'll find updated vaccine distribution information along with administration information.

Newest Attraction in Village of Rowlett Downtown!Mayor Tammy Dana-Bashian and her granddaughter, Emma, love our newest attraction - a giant 7' tall cedar chair! This will be a great weekend to get out of the house and take some pictures to post on FB or Instagram!
Many thanks to Rowlett community members Ernest and Florence Smith who built this giant chair and raffled it off to benefit the North Texas Food Bank! Then the winner of the raffle kindly donated the chair to the City of Rowlett for the community to enjoy! The chair will remain in the open space at the Village of Rowlett Downtown, 4000 Main St. We love our community and their generosity!
The Parks and Recreation Department invite you to celebrate by participating in their newest challenge - upload a picture of yourself sitting on the chair to either Facebook or Instagram (using #myrowlett and #rowlettpard) to enter your chance to win a custom headband! The winners will be chosen one week from today! Ready, set, go! ?? #MyRowlett#BetterTogether__________________________________

Recently, the City experienced an unexpected issue when data was uploaded to our utility bill payment processor (Paymentus). This issue affected only a small portion of the City’s approximately 19,000 utility customers and will be corrected automatically on those accounts. Although the issue is unique and isolated to this event, we do apologize for any inconvenience experienced by our customers. As always, our dedicated Utility Billing staff is available at 972-412-6105 to assist customers who would like more information.
**UPDATE - This was not a billing error. Rather, a file used to pull electronic payments for about 800 customers with automatic withdraw was corrupted and therefore some of those customers may have had the wrong amount withdrawn from their payment source. The City reversed these payments immediately and the correct payments will be withdrawn early next week. Not all automatic withdraw customers were impacted.** __________________________________
