The Veterans Recognition Program, when Rowlett veterans of all ages and branches of service are formally recognized at City Council meetings, officially resumed on July 20th! The 18th veteran to be honored is Tyler Remediz, who served in the U.S. Army as part of Operation Enduring Freedom and now serves as a Dallas Police Officer.
From a military family, Army Sergeant Remediz enlisted in 2002 shortly after 9/11. During his army career with Charlie Company, 2-87 Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (light) he earned the rank of Sergeant and served as an Infantry Squad Leader. He deployed twice, in 2003 and 2006, to Afghanistan to conduct combat operations. In 2006, while leading his infantry squad in Helmand Province, Sgt. Remediz was wounded by a rocket propelled grenade and was subsequently awarded the Purple Heart.
After an honorable medical retirement from the Army, Remediz joined the DPD where he has served over 11 years in a variety of duty assignments. These include the Crime Response Team, focusing on deterring criminal and drug offenses; the Deployment Team, whose aim is combating violent crime as well as property crime; and the DPD’s Mobile Surveillance Unit. He has received numerous internal and external commendations and recognitions for his hard work, teamwork and dedication to service. Read more ...
