Well, here’s your chance - the City Council is now accepting applications from residents who wish to serve on the ad hoc Bond Committee! This is an opportunity to help prioritize the projects you feel are needed throughout our community for inclusion in future bond elections.
The ad hoc Bond Committee will be made up of Rowlett citizens just like you who are interested in improving the amenities and infrastructure in our City. The committee will provide recommendations to the City Council regarding capital projects priorities, selection, guiding values for planning, and slating projects for bond elections. These projects address existing infrastructure needs (i.e. streets and alleys), planning for future growth (i.e. buildings) and respond to the quality of life wants and needs (i.e. parks) of our community, and the process includes input from citizens, the City Council, and City of Rowlett staff. Residential Safe Room Rebate Program - Apply Now!The Rowlett Office of Emergency Management has reopened the Rowlett Residential Safe Room Rebate Program, which helps homeowners who wish to mitigate risk to tornadoes, straight-line winds, and hail by installing a residential safe room. Community Emergency Response Team ClassThe Rowlett Citizen Corps Council is holding a two-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class on Saturdays, February 12 and 26, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (both days are required). The RCCC is actively recruiting residents to be trained in the CERT program that includes Disaster Medical Operations, Light Search and Rescue, and Fire Suppression following FEMA guidelines. During a natural or man-made disaster, CERT teams assist Public Safety teams in doing damage assessment, accounting for residents, and securing quick, accessible routes into their neighborhood. These teams also help search for missing persons, and assist with evacuations, traffic control, courtesy patrols, and City events. A course fee of $20 covers class administrative expenses. Rowlett Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Day Event To honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. The RDEIC held their first MLK Day community gathering in front of City Hall from 2-3 pm on Monday, January 17. To further commemorate Dr. King’s commitment to community and service, the RDEIC continues to accept donations of winter caps, socks, and blankets. Rowlett Police Department New Officer Orientation Orientation for several new RPD officers is underway! These sessions include all aspects of the Police Department, and the learning takes place in both a classroom setting and out in the field. This week featured range day and firearm qualifications for our six new recruits!

Scouts Tour Fire Station 1 On Monday evening, Rowlett Fire Station 1 crews conducted a station tour for a local Cub Scout troop. We had 10 scouts and 10 adults who learned about the apparatus (fancy name for fire engines and medic units), and how our station operates. It was fun for everyone – the parents may have enjoyed it even more than the kiddos (just sayn’…)!

Lake Highland Trail Construction North Rock Construction continued installing handrailing and installed another 350 feet. The landscape subcontractor was back onsite and resumed installing sod. Sign installation is also underway – stay tuned for more progress reports!

State Highway 66 East Sanitary Sewer Line - Phase 1 ANA Site Construction was onsite clearing brush and debris to create a path to the job site and began exposing the existing sanitary sewer line. The by-pass subcontractor was also onsite, fusing the pipe together for the by-pass pumping operations, which is anticipated to begin next week.
