March Mayor’s Spotlight - May 7 General and Special Election

The filing periods have closed and the ballot is set! Check out the March Mayor’s Spotlight for a candidate listing, information regarding for the upcoming Chamber of Commerce Mayor and Council Candidate Forums, early voting dates and times, and more.

Did you know?
To vote in the May 7 General and Special Election, you must be registered by April 7, 2022. This includes updating changes of address or name changes and/or corrections.

Volunteers Clean Up Liberty Grove Road 

Last Saturday morning, 17 energetic Keep Rowlett Beautiful, Inc.  volunteers spent nearly three hours cleaning up Liberty Grove Road. Over 40 bags of trash were collected and this area of town looks so much better now - thank you to all the volunteers that showed up on their day off to serve our community!
 
Also, shout out to Keep Rowlett Beautiful’s Scott Schiavone for organizing this cleanup. Scott's goal is to clean up one area within our community each month. If you have an area in mind, please pass that information on to him via email.

DGNO Railroad Crossing Rehab – Street Closures to Occur 

DGNO Railroad will perform railroad crossing rehab on their Stanford Street crossing beginning today (Friday, March 11), as well as their Miller Road crossing, which begins Sunday, March 13. These roads will be completely closed at the crossing locations for the approximately 48-hour duration of each project. Please see the image for alternate route information – the same route will be used for both closings as they do not occur simultaneously.

  • Stanford Street south of Chiesa will be completely closed Friday, March 11 beginning at 8am - Saturday, March 12 at approximately 6pm.
  • Miller Road between Chardonnay Drive and Glen Hill Drive will be completely closed Sunday, March 13 at 8am - Monday, March 14 at approximately 6pm.

 North Texas Municipal Water District 

The NTMWD Annual System Maintenance runs March 1-29. During this time, the NTMWD temporarily changes the disinfectant in the water treatment process. The annual, routine change is necessary to maintain the regional system and year round water quality, however the absence of ammonia during these few weeks may make the chlorine disinfectant more noticeable. There are simple steps to minimize taste, odor or skin sensitivities, including placing a pitcher of water in the refrigerator overnight or adding a slice of citrus to the water. Adding a crushed 1000 mg Vitamin C tablet to bath water will remove the chlorine. More info…

Public Art Project – City of Rowlett Arts & Humanities Commission Wants YOUR Input! 

The Arts and Humanities Commission is in the process of selecting a sculpture for Fire Station #2 and we would like YOU to be a part of the process.
 
On Wednesday, March 16 from 6-8 pm at the Rowlett Community Centre, you will have the opportunity to visit with the artists who are submitting design ideas for a sculpture.  Community feedback will enable the Selection Panel to choose the right artist for the community and will enable the artist to produce a work that is truly reflective of Rowlett. Free Electronic Recycling & Document Shredding – Saturday, April 9

The Garland Independent School District and the Rowlett Police Department have partnered to assist police officers during encounters with members of the GISD community with special needs, such as those who are non-verbal or have a mental, emotional or intellectual disability.

Rowlett Sings

The Arts and Humanities Commission has brought back this popular amateur singing competition, and its open to all Rowlett residents. Contestants may enter group and solo categories, which are offered according to age range. Deadline to enter is April 9, so polish up those vocal skills!

Lakeland Heights Neighborhood Reconstruction

Tiseo Paving Company’s utility contractor installed approximately 220 linear feet of new 8” sanitary sewer line, including nine cleanouts, and two new sanitary sewer manholes. Their crews also installed around 100 linear feet of new storm sewer line.

Lakeshore/
Windridge Alley Reconstruction 

Aushill Construction completed placing all concrete for the project and began backfilling and cleaning up. The final walkthrough is scheduled to be conducted on March 16.

Lake Highland Trail

North Rock Construction has completed setting the mile marker medallions. The wax covers on the medallions will remain until the final walkthrough is conducted. Additional hand railing was delivered and installation continued.

SH66 East Sanitary Sewer Line Phase 1

ANA Site Construction  set an additional manhole, bringing the total number set to 5 out of 13.  An additional 400 linear feet of 30” sewer line was replaced this week.
