May 4 - International Fire Fighter’s Day This day of recognition gives us all an opportunity to say thank you to the world’s firefighters for all that they do to keep our communities safe. We are so grateful for all the men and women who serve our community at the Rowlett Fire Department. Even when our furry community members are in need, they answer the call! Earlier this week, the crew at Station 2 received a call dispatching them to their front parking lot. Out they went, only to find a resident with a Pug in active labor but having some trouble. They quickly realized she was having more trouble than they could help with, so they got on the phone and found an Emergency Vet that could help. A couple of hours later, the owner came back with Momma dog and her brand new puppies. SO CUTE!! The Rowlett Fire Department truly goes above and beyond for the citizens we serve!

National Detention Officers Week May 1-7 was Recognized by Proclamation as National Detention Officers Week at this week’s City Council Meeting. The Rowlett Detention Facility is staffed by dedicated, well-trained Detention Officers who are tasked with providing for the supervision and security of inmates twenty-four hours per day. Few citizens fully understand how demanding the work of a Detention Officer is. It requires due diligence and dedication, qualities that Rowlett Detention Officers routinely display as they tackle the challenges and opportunities presented daily in the management of the inmate population. Our Detention Officers consistently muster a can-do commitment to their work, creating and sustaining a safe workplace, making the best use of available resources, being an important part of the Criminal Justice System, and striving for excellence in everything that they do. There is not a day at the Police Department that Detention Officers do not make a difference in the level of quality policing evident in the City of Rowlett.

Arts & Humanities Commission Young Artists Exhibit Winners The exceptionally talented winners of the 2022 Arts and Humanities Commission Young Artists Exhibit were recognized at this week’s City Council Meeting. The Commission's goal for this annual exhibit is to recognize our community’s young local artists and their art teachers and is open to kids in Kindergarten through 12th grade (public, private and home-schooled students). The Young Artists Exhibit gives kids the positive reinforcement and encouragement they need, for many this event is an important opportunity to display their artwork. It helps to validate them as developing artists and helps parents and community members to be more aware of the importance and impact of visual arts programs in our schools.
