Pollinator Garden at Schrade Bluebonnet Park
The Rowlett Parks and Recreation and Neighborhood Planning teams have collaborated to install the first official City-owned and maintained pollinator garden! This garden serves as a milestone for the City, marking a step forward in our journey to becoming leaders and advocates for the worldwide initiative that cares for and helps preserve habitats for all pollinators. Last summer, the City of Rowlett became an official Bee City USA affiliate with the support and collaboration of Keep Rowlett Beautiful. As laid out in the Resolution adopted by City Council, the City sealed its commitment to act locally for the preservation and conservation of native pollinators and their habitats. The Schrade Bluebonnet Park pollinator garden will serve not only as a place of social interaction but also as an educational space, with plans to bring to our community master gardeners and professionals in the field who can teach us all things pollinator-related! We hope that you stay connected with us through this journey and that this work inspires each one of you to act locally to help build pollinator habitats in our community. More info…

This week, while Officer Ellen Farmer was at the Rowlett High School, she noticed that the JROTC group was outside doing a PT session. When she walked over to speak with the instructor (Officer Farmer was previously enlisted in the Air Force), a few of the cadets asked her to run with them. She ran a few laps and answered questions they had regarding her military experience, then headed back to patrol. Thank you, Officer Farmer, for being such a positive role model for our Rowlett youth!

Economic Development Week This is Economic Development Week – a time to promote and recognize the work of economic development professionals around the world. Recognized by proclamation at last week’s City Council Meeting, Rowlett’s Economic Development Department works collaboratively with other community and regional partners to foster economic and community growth. The department works to create awareness and partnerships with our existing businesses through the Business Retention & Expansion Program. Existing business growth accounts for approximately 80% of new jobs within a community, so this program is essential to our strategic actions! The team conducts business attraction efforts as well, to bring in new jobs and investment to Rowlett. This is accomplished through outreach with national and local site selection consultants, along with corporate and commercial realtors. By partnering with the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce, Rowlett’s Economic Development team collaborates on programing and outreach to assist entrepreneurs and help businesses connect to other partners such as Garland Independent School District and Dallas College for workforce development pipelines.
