JJ Jones is a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving as a Munitions System Specialist during Operation Desert Storm. After being honorably discharged in 1992 with five years of active duty a new career in automotive repair began. During this time JJ became an ASE Mater Automotive Mechanic and medium duty truck technician working in all aspects of repair, but specializing in engine and transmission rebuilds.
In 2003 JJ discovered he missed the military life and signed up with the Dallas County Sheriff Department to become a Reserve Deputy. After graduating the police academy and serving four months of Reserve duty, JJ was hired by the Rowlett Police Department in 2005.
During his tenure with the Rowlett Police Department, JJ has achieved his TCOLE Master Peace Officer License along with Mental Health Peace Officer and Basic Instructor Proficiency Certifications. Currently JJ has the following specialties: Mental Health Peace officer, Crisis Negotiation Team Member, CIT Officer, Containment Team Member, Bike Patrol Officer, Honor Guard, and Field Training Officer.
In 2013 JJ presented the idea of implementing a program at the Rowlett Police Department for working with those in crisis. After serving 8 years in patrol JJ started the Crisis Assistance Program and it went full-time in August 2014. That has been his duty assignment since. In the years since the program’s implementation, which was one person unit until 2020, well over 5000 on-duty and after hour contacts have been made. August 1, 2022, the Crisis Assistance Program reached another milestone, its 8-year anniversary. With a passion to help those in need JJ strives to continue learning and to pay it forward to others.
In his spare time, JJ enjoys being outdoors. JJ loves to work on his farm and tend to his chickens and bees.
